Georgian National Tourism Policy and Development Strategy
On December 26 Ilia State University Public Policy Research and Training Centre (PPRTC) hosted public lecture on the topic: “Georgian National Tourism Policy and Development Strategy”. The lecture was delivered by ISU professor-Giorgi Begadze.
During the lecture speaker reviewed “Georgia Tourism Strategy 2025”, gave a detailed description of the goals set by abovementioned strategy; among them are: contributing to the sustainable development of tourism in Georgia, raising revenue from tourism and enhancing the importance of this sector in general. Mr. Begadze presented to the audience the dynamics of tourism in our country between the years 2009-2015 and noted that during this period the number of tourists had increased four times.
Mr. Begadze also spoke about the directions that should be developed in order to increase the number of tourists, the average number of days spent in Georgia and revenue from this field.
The lecture was held in the mode of discussion. The attendees were interested in prospects of development Inclusive and Gastronomic Tourism in Georgia and the plans of government in these directions. They also discussed the changes that should be made in legislation in order to contribute to the development of tourism in Georgia.
The lecture was held in the framework of lecture series “Impact of Europeanization on Public Policy Changes in Georgia”.
